I find many retelling of classic stories are done without a clear goal or message & come off as a lazy way to make money. They don’t say anything new or relevant.
The Weight of Blood, however, did an amazing job at retelling Stephen King’s Carrie in a modernized and societally necessary way. Race and identity play huge factors as well as white guilt and the phenomenon of scapegoating. I also loved the romance.
