Although it got off to a great start and has been recommended to me multiple times in the past, I’ve been disappointed. The philosophizing and moralizing on the lips of major characters is interesting, but weighs down an otherwise poorly written story. The characters are, to my lights, “unbelievably flat” (e.g., the experts in the story are too deep and broad to be believed; the “foils” to caricatured).
