A connection I can make from the book ALLWTW is that taking one step at a time can help you persevere. In the story, Uncle tells Salva to focus on doing something little by little can help him. Uncle told Salva to walk to the bush ahead, the tree ahead, etc. Salva actually did a better job of walking. I also think focusing on something small one by one can help you be more successful.

One of the main themes in the book "ALWTW" is that we live in an unjust world. Nya has to walk 16 hours each day to get water. Salva has been torn away from his family and must survive on his own. Their stories are way different than our stories. We don't even think twice about having water, food, or shelter. We are fortunate to not experience the bad things other people experience. Life isn't fair, we are lucky.

This book's language is not that formal, there is a bit of slang and southern accent-ish which reminds me of how Ms. Habel's says her grandma talks like. There are words like y'all and other parts of the book where it sounds very southern. This is a text-to-world connection.

The socs, abbreviation for socials, people with wealth and ego, remind me of Draco Malfoy because Draco Malfoy also has a lot of money and thinks he can get away with anything. He is rude like the socs are. The socs bully Ponyboy Curtis and Draco Malfoy tries to bully Harry Potter and his friends.

I like how this books gives the character a very real personality and has a little bit of kid slang which is interesting.

A part of this book connects to the mass shootings happening in this world. They are connected because both events caused a lot of damage. The part in this book ruined a friendship and almost got the main characters kidnapped while mass shootings cause family members to grief and people to be afraid and scared.

So far, this book is really good. I like interesting mysteries and sherlock holmes is a outstanding mystery solver so it is always really interesting to read sherlock holmes.
