Starting ch 3. I like the writing style. Reminds me a little of Teffi. Similar to Memories: From Moscow to the Black Sea in that the protagonist is a refugee, on the run.

Such horrendous treatment of Indigenous Canadian children in residential schools. The Witness Blanket is a fabulous exhibit created to document and pay witness to these childrens’ lives, with at least one item from each school. I don’t understand how these schools (more like prisons) were in existence for so long. It’s shameful and a stain on the Canadian government and the Catholic Church.

“The Germans were approaching…The end of the world was at hand - tomorrow, tonight, any moment.” I think this one will be interesting and different. Not sure what to expect.

The humor is not as biting as his adult books but it’s there! I’ve had a few laugh out loud moments. I liked this line, “I’ll have to talk to my supervisor…and she’s already left for the day. The office closes at 4:30, and it’s already, let’s see, 4:27.” Yup, that’s a government office for you!

Audiobook w narrator Chad Lowe is pretty good.

Excellent writing! Love it.

I wasn’t going to read this until 2024 but I started it, just out of curiosity, and it’s so good!
