I've stalled reading this book. I've enjoyed it, mostly, but it's so weird -- and fatiguing. The writing can be both sublime and absurd at the same time; for example, see the AA stories. To its credit, this tome has left an indelible impression; I think I can pick it up again later -- and I mean to -- without skipping a beat. I hope so, anyway, because there's not enough time in a lifetime to start again.

A good effort. Decidedly that. An excellent effort! Of course now and then—just now and then—it gets a touch elaborate. Too many words.
