This is so good. A bit slow but I understand why. I'll say though that there's no real way I can see Emma or Travis interacting with THIS Simon. That's not who he was too them and there's no way they'll be able to slot this new version in along side the version they met.

I'm incredibly annoyed with Cordelia by this point

It's taken literally the entire book to find out that her sister just rolled away with the same monsters she's trying to hunt, out of essentially curiosity. And she's so chill about it. If I was Kidan I'd be ready to fight cause how dare you make me think you've been kidnapped and the whole time you were actually planning to roll back into the family legacy.

I'm so annoyed with Kidan. She's so stupid and headstrong and doesn't THINK. Also she's so focused on forgiving her "friends" that she doesn't take the time to ask Susenyos the right questions or do real investigative work into the disappearance of her sister.

OK I'm really annoyed by Kidan. Now she's mad that Susenyos is NOT her sister's killer/kidnapper? Girl pick a struggle and stop acting like a damn child.

Kidane is deeply annoying because she just rushes in and doesn't take a single moment to think about the consequences of her actions.

Every body knows a Geoffrey. One of those people who just can't take a damn hint and who is incredibly invasive and gross and just does not understand why you are not into them.

Honestly I'm kind of rooting for her to kill him. He deserves it.

I can't be the only one who hears the narrator of the audiobook slurping right?

It's a slow build but the kind you get in a horror movie where you know that something bad is coming.

So I couldn't give a real review during my first read because it was an ARC but this is so good,so worth it that I also bought the audio book. And it is GOOD.

I really really love the way this story manages to work a world of magic in with how women use it to protect themselves against the constant violence of the world.

I'm sorry...but I just finished chapter 9 and there's a bit of the "magical negro" here. (I'm black before anyone gets upset.) like I can't be the only one who listened or read that whole chapter and didn't think there was a am element of that right?

Ok so listen...this is definitely not the same as House of Hollow. Both books have very different vibes and themes. As an aside the constant mention of the "founding families" clearly hints that certain characters are more deeply tied to the magic of the area then you think at first.

Also...I think I figured out the "mysteries" pretty early on and now I'm mostly just listening to the audiobook to see if I'm right.

Ok this is still giving me Practical Magic vibes, but also Sarah Addison Allen vibes, especially with the baking emotions into food.

I see we're going with an Appalachian Practical magic feel. Interested to see where this goes.
