3 stars. We've finished the first story and though the 5-year-old loved it, I do not think we will continue. The setting is charming and the story is fun but it lacks depth. I was extremely surprised to find out it was published in 2009. The stereotypical gender roles portrayed are inescapable and irredeemable. A "good" character who is truly unsavory is never chastised by the author, other characters, or the story.
