Mid-novel reflection on gender: Sanderson does a solid job with women's characters. Looking at Kaladin and Shallan, these are well-developed, deep characters. But womanhood is a part of Shallan's character in a way that manhood would never be part of Kaladin's. He gets to just BE without a constant reminder that he is MAN, man man gendered man. The womanhood of Shallan is constantly mentioned/marked.
