This is the young readers (middle school) edition and I'm good with that level of information at the moment

Currently on a reread of this series and it's so fun to come across characters that haven't shown up for awhile or are introduced for the first time. Mrs Fenniman! The Mountain Morris Mallet Men! 🤣

I'm still reading this but I'm giving it 5 stars already. The way Richard Osman has written love and heartbreak is almost too good. I've had to take emotional breaks. 💜

This is interesting but she writes at a middle school level. Was there no editor to curb her use of parenthesis, especially at the end of a paragraph?

I really want to like this book. The premise is very clever and original. But it's just not exciting the way a murder mystery should be. I'm giving it about 50 more pages to grab me

I've already read book 3 so I know this improves, but no maid of honor on earth has ever done this much work. THREE brides making their maid of honor their unpaid wedding planner is just ridiculous, and the detailed journal of her outrageous list of chores is getting tedious.

I'm having a hard time finishing because I can tell this is going to continue into the next book and I don't want to wait!

I was really hoping we were finally getting a NORA KELLY book without Cori moping around.

The Babysitters Club was KNOWN for outfit descriptions and still didn't spend this much time describing outfits. Get to the action already!

#20 made me nostalgic for #1. Smithback 💔

This is way overdue and I need to return it to the library. It's a series of anecdotes so I can easily pick it back up later.

Not sure I will finish this. Every little thing (a rose petal dropping while someone is holding the stem?) is an omen of death or bad luck, and yet every little bit of detritus is good for some future potion. It's getting to be a bit much and it doesn't move the story along. I'm not taking notes on swamp witch potions.

This is the first time I can think of that I've encountered a terrible audiobook. The person reading Caroline is so ridiculously slow in reading the most mundane details, and the person reading Nella is trying to read like a dead person. So plodding and emotionless. The person reading Eliza does a better job of reading Nella as a human. I'm setting this aside until it's my turn for the physical copy at the library

It's incredible how much time Caroline can spend on reflection and scenery chewing while staring at a door in a alley at midnight. This plot is clever but damn I'm getting some Carrie Bradshaw fatigue from this character

This is only the second Augusten Burroughs book I've read but I feel reasonably confident that the Maiden's Hair (Jeffrey) chapter will be the best chapter of any of his books

It's kind of funny to see how many reviews say he's a cranky and sour old bastard, because he's actually much more self-aware and self-deprecating in this book than Notes From a Small Island. But if you're not a fan, you're not a fan. 🤷

God I'm so tired of Rose. I can't wait to be done with this book. (The last ~100 pages are notes and bibliography so I'm almost there.)

Really surprised to find this on my "want to read" shelf because I thought I had read all of Michael Crichton's books. The fun thing about a book like this, very tech heavy but 1980s tech heavy, is that you have to send your inner geek back in time

The writing is so bad but I will read a lot of crap for an interest plot idea

Picked this up again a few days ago and have been enjoying it, but then got to the Dust Bowl and it was just too depressing in the current political climate.

So far this is a case of the dust jacket overselling the product. 67 pages in and I do not even have a HINT that's there is anything weird, creepy, or scary in this book. If I went by these first pages I would think it's just a British romance

I'm really trying to finish a few books I left unfinished and this is one. The endless inspirational meme that is The Alchemist. Sigh.

I've always gotten the impression that Patricia Cornwell is pretty racist, because all her dialogue of black characters up to this point has been Mammy level, but in this one she comes right out and says it with Scarpetta calling a black man arrogant for taking issue with her black on black crime report. I don't know why I keep reading this except that I hope Cornwell gets woke after 30 years of writing this series

How is Scarpetta such a Puritan about Getting Drunk when she drinks ALL THE TIME. You know you can be a functional alcoholic, Scarpetta. This derails me every single book because it makes no sense

Really not sure I can make it through any more of these books where the author is working through her own sexuality by making Marino be an intolerant, homophobic bigot.

I don't know if I can go on. does marlowe have an ounce of testosterone in his body?
