Intriguing and humbling. “Symbolic Capitalism” is a brilliant label and unfortunately I have fallen victim to trading in this. My biases are being battered about and I am grateful for it. A must read for any lay person hoping to understand the underlying history of how our culture has been captured by likely well-intentioned people being captured by economic incentives contrary to their stated beliefs.

That Mr. Widmer wrote this book BEFORE January 6th 20201 is a marvel. He all but previewed the insurrection at the Capitol and speaks so clearly about the desire for factions to break from tradition based on a single man’s election. Widmer lays out in thrilling detail the disruption tech had on the 1860 election and the buildup to inauguration. Thank you, Mr. Widmer and Ol’ Abe!

Fascinating, frustrating, and worth the effort.
