I'm really enjoying this one, so far. Strong writing, lots of interesting tidbits and details about the world, some interesting foreshadowing. The pace is a little slow, but not unforgiveably so -- it is, after all, a "hero's origin" story. (Or perhaps a "villain's origin" story, depending on your POV.)

So far, so good. I'm not blown away yet, but I'm also not fed up. :-) Colonial America with some interesting magic makes for an intriguing backdrop. The writing style is a bit stiff and the characters pretty stereotypical so far, but maybe that will change.

Still slow going. The telling of this story is very roundabout, and I think the novel could have been 100 pages shorter...

This book is going more slowly than usual, for me.
