I should be loving this...but I'm not...and it's making me sad. There's all the tension of an overcooked noodle. This needs an editor with a machete, because the amount of extraneous or repetitive information is seriously killing any and all sense of action or conflict.
Also "palpitate" and "palpate" are not interchangeable.
