Still enjoying this one. I feel like Uehashi does need some work on her delivery of exposition. Sometimes she just dumps explanations on the reader without even attempting to connect it to characters' thoughts, what they see around them, etc.

Still very clunky, but if you are willing to look past many deep flaws, it is interesting. Still, very flawed execution.

I've already got a sense that I will probably not like Michael Moorcock's writing style, if you can call his Cliff-Notes-esque spoon-feeding of exposition and backstory a style.

As I suspected, this is really similar to Rousseau's work about primitive human societies: most of the "data" is either outdated, or just made up from Marxist ideology.

Interesting so far, but the current section is an exposition dump that is not handled smoothly at all.

Miura does a great job selling the epicness of what is about to happen. Simply great artwork, and more of Guts' irreverence.

An interesting start so far. This is my first attempt at reading a full novel in Japanese where I'm not familiar with the story before hand. One thing that annoyed me as a lifeguard was the main character hoping that the person she was going to rescue from a river was unconscious. My wife said this was a common theme in Japanese rescue incidents, so maybe don't drown in Japan - they might knock you out!
