Danielle is starting A Secret History of Witches

I just started this book and I’m irritated with it from the beginning. I’ll keep going for a bit to see if it compensates otherwise, but I found it flat out disrespectful for the author to give the 1800s Romani family a Wiccan religious/magic practice which itself is based in Celtic traditions. It’s sloppy and racist to trade in the mythos of Roma magic without actually representing Romani cultural history.

Danielle is reading Maneuvers: The International Politics of Militarizing Women's Lives

I am really really excited about this book. I am only able to skim-read it right now for the parts that are mort relevant to the research I need to get done, but I am looking forward to going back and reading it through properly. Hopefully Enloe is as dynamic and engaging in her writing as she is in person.
