What an ingenious approach to the consideration of the character of a man from a monumental piece of literature. I am approaching my own approach to this novel-essay very carefully: Jean Amery committed suicide and Primo Levi wrote about him at length in Levi's "The Drowned and the Saved," the book all we abused folks gravitate towards. I got the idea to read this book from a review by Sam Sachs. It's a short book.

Commissioner Kelly's book has been quite eye opening for me thus far. For example, I did not know that "Safe Streets, Safe City" was a program that he initiated under the David Dinkens administration and that the effects of adding all those New police officers to the NYPD (5000), and going after quality of life crimes, was not fully felt until Giuliani had been elected. I hold Mayor Dinkens in New esteem now.

This book has moved me to tears several times already and I still have a hundred plus pages to go. Moreover, I have learned so much about the activities and functions that come with the job of being a United States Senator. God Bless John McCain and his wonderful family. This book is motivating me to be a better person and stronger advocate of globalization and America's indespensible roll in leading it.

Really great so far and the authors make very convincing arguments about how do-gooders like to write checks that just make problems worse for Africans. Just got done reading Winter 2017 "Journal of Democracy" which describes the corruption related to the "thief-in-chief" governments in several African countries. "The Aid Trap" is great because it gives a big picture view. Can't wait to read Chapter three.

Been waiting to read this since 2009 and now I am going to finally do it! Will probably also re-read "Healthy, Wealthy and Wise" and then turn to "Balance" soon after I am caught up with my challenge.
