Very readable introduction, some interesting perspectives

Technical sections in these latter parts get a bit tedious. The chapter on garbage collection was quite interesting.

Picked up chapter 4 after a long hiatus. Probably won't do exercises for the remainder, though. It's nice to see how little effort is necessary really to build Lisp Interpreter in Scheme.

The sidebar on Doug McIlroy's 1978 spell program for the 64K PDP-11 is just fantastic.

Tatsächlich ergänzen die drei angehängten "Lebensläufe", Erzählungen, den vorgestellten Roman gut und sind allemal lesenswert.

Hier endet die Lebensbeschreibung des Glasperlenspielmeisters. Keine wirkliche Enttäuschung, aber auch kein zeitlos gelungener Roman. Habe ich noch Muße für die angehängten drei "Lebensläufe"?

Later chapters pick up the pace somewhat...

The first eight chapters very gently introduce binary code, then build up to circuits of logical gates, explained rather insightfully. Interesting details and historical connections to pick up for many readers, even if the concepts aren't new to them.
