So, a few of the people who recommended this one to me always told me to skip the chapter on domestic violence. I thought that was odd, considering what kind of book this is but this little gem made me realize why: "the first time a woman is hit, she is a victim and the second time, she is a volunteer." THIS IS SUCH VICTIM BLAMING BULLSHIT and it's one of the reasons why more women don't seek help.

"Watching the confident, stylish dancers on the small dance floor, he wondered how many had AIDS. Strutting timebombs." Oh, what the flying fuck. I think I just nailed it; this book chafes me because it's so stereotypical and it leans towards offensive in several passages. Dudes Neil isn't interested in are either creepy, too "camp" or ugly. So yeah, I'm chafin.

I can't tell if I like this book or not? Like something about it just chafes me the wrong way? This might be a hard one to review.

HOLY SHIT FUCK THIS BOOK AND IT'S CASUAL MISOGYNY.

HEY YOU GUYS, I REALLY LIKE THIS BOOK SO FAR. In all capslock, because it's rare as hell that I actually like a YA novel. I mean, okay - I have some very slight problems with the worldbuilding but the characters are so awesomely written and the relationship between Katsa and Po is FANTASTIC. Not manipulative and icky like The Hunger Games, not abusive like Twilight. And the sex scene? SO TENDER AND BEAUTIFUL. YAY.

I checked this one out solely for the chapter on the Lyric cause I WORK THERE, YO. And our ghost is pretty legit.

My favorite part about Norse mythology is how much of it can be summed up with, "LOKI IS A DICK, YOU GUYS."
