What if heaven is just a bad consciousness that the dead return to? And their assignment is to report in the experiences they collected during earth.

i am loving her narraritive stule, the way she develops the characters, how narrator feels real to me.

I've dropped it again. I love Denver's story his narrative feels sincere and real. Ron's is just not capturing my heart. It sounds like a privilege missionary coming to save the world. I'll pick it up later...

I don't love Ron. His story seems very superficial and trivial--rags to riches that only can happen to a white man. Denver has my heart and I like Deborah. The religious propaganda falls flat. As a believer, I was expecting something more authentic.

Even as a little boy, it bothered me that the colored workers ate lunch meat on the ground behind the filling station while the white workers gathered like family for hot, home-cooked food. Sometimes I had the urge to do something about it, but I never did.

I could not keep going. I was tired of the trivial narrative. I felt like I needed to keep reading because something SHOULD happen soon but it was one superficial thing after another. I know that she's iconic for many reasons but I couldn't connect to her first person narrative nor to the life-moments the author chose to highlight. So I moved one. Maybe later...when my heart is more patient with the trivial.

Feeing a little annoyed right now. It's set in Africa but the narration is very white-centered, almost trivial, with extended elaboration on some events that are not compelling for this humble reader. Ugh...onward I go

Very fantastical stories focusing on the intersections between animal and human...

why can't I just read and read? I'm enjoying the diverse themes and that each story revolves around animals and how they interact with each other and with humans: how are humans impacted through these interactions? Still deciding. However, I'm still trying to figure out if I like it. It's an interesting read, great story-telling, but at the end of each story I am left with a "hmm..."

Everyone wants freedom, but every bird has it's own idea of what it is.
