This book is spoilerific. Hope you've read all your classics because the author is just desperate to show you that he has.

This book is still pretty bleak and the protagonist seems whiny, delusional and unsympathetic. I'm assuming the movie must be a pretty loose adaptation since everyone tells me how funny and awesome it is and the book is neither funny nor awesome. O_o

You know what would make this writing a billion times better? Contractions! This guy's editor ought to be fired. How do you write a first person, casual, modern day narrative and not use a single contraction? It sounds stilted and unnatural.

*sigh* Another audiobook narrator who's going to drive me nuts. The way he's reading (slow, deliberate, almost juvenile tone) combined with some of the wording used by the author ("apart time") makes it sound like the main character has cognitive, developmental delays and not depression.

This is another book I'm glad I'm listening to on audio. It's written as a series of letters to and from an author working on a project about her correspondants. In the audiobook, they've made the brilliant choice of using multiple narrators which really brings each character to life and makes it easy to keep track of who's writing whom.

I'm liking this already. It's a philosophical work (popular, not academic) but it's presented like a novel, taking the reader through one of the author's relationships, from start to finish.
