Really enjoying this. The affectation of the 18th Century writing takes a little getting used to, but, just like James Ellroy or Feersum Endjinn, once you fall into the rhythm of the writing it makes for a compelling read.

Good gravy, but this is good. Had been worried about whether charlie could pull off a CASE NIGHTMARE event - he is doing so with élan.

Oh, now, this is the business. I've always loved McDonald's work, I ate up River of Gods and Brasyl, and I realised that I've read this world before, in Jon Strahan's excellent 'Reach for Infinity' anthology. Great stuff indeed. Really looking forward to the rest of this book.

Not sure about this one. I like the setting and the writing, but, good gods, is this preachy.

This is great, real enjoyable SF. Very different 'voice' to his Guns of the Dawn. Really enjoying the 'Portia' PoV sections, like Deepness in the Sky, without the anthropomorphic lean.

Really enjoying this. Refreshing change after the turgid Dark Forest to read a book which has sparkling and witty dialogue and plot.
It is a bit "thin" though, lots of pop-culture references.

This book is... Well, it is remarkable. Grabs you by the eyeballs almost from the first words. Unsure if this is fantasy, or horror, or whatever; I think it possibly defies genre stereotypes. Completely compelling narrative.

Just read the chapter "Doctor Callow's Dream", seem to have something in my eyes. Either that or it's raining.

This is everything the preview promised, and so much more. Takes a little time to get accustomed to the insane world/timeline, but once there, the rewards are incredible.
