I started reading this book because I'm a fan of the author (Colm Toibin) without knowing about the subject matter (Thomas Mann). Absolutely fascinating story and well-written. Loving this book.

It’s a very good book, dense with facts. I didn’t finish it (had to return to library) but hope to pick it up again some day.

Good start but it’s slowing down for me. Not sure I’m going to finish this one. Interesting premise but so much detail.

Midway through and I’m putting it aside. It’s just too implausible altogether, even if fiction. I’ll be filing this under “started but did not complete.”

As with most Erik Larson's books, this one is filled with detail. If you're not entirely interested in the topics, it can take a while to get into it. But I have stuck with it, I am definitely into it, and loving this book. As with all Erik Larson's.

It's a good one.
