While I felt Half A King had a somewhat slow start, Half the World is already off to the races two chapters in. Really excited for this read.

Stories don't always have to be all shock and awe. Sometimes the expected thing, even the predictable thing, is the RIGHT thing. Especially when it's done really, really well.

As Rothfuss notes in his forward, this book would seem quite awkward and unpleasantly unusual if I had not read his previous novels. Having read and enjoyed his previous works, I'm finding "The Slow Regard of Silent Things" pleasantly unusual. The protagonist, Auri, has a special language all her own; the words may be the same as ousr, but they are employed in altogether different manner.

Interesting read. The haunting lyricism of Darnielle's music has also found its way into his novel.

As I progress through this novel, I find most of the characters (and the main character in particular) more and more awful. There seems to be little real story other than Quentin and his endless ennui. Over halfway through, I suppose I'll finish it anyway...

Spoiler alert: Strong Belwas eats too many honeyed locusts.
