Just arrived! So excited to read this. Read a review that made me HAVE TO order this. In 1820's London, Frannie is up for murdering her employers, who took her in from a bad situation in Jamaica, where she was born and reared. She has no memory of the day of the murder or why she was covered in her employers' blood. She cannot believe she murdered her mistress because they were in love. And much more!

This is a wild little volume. It obviously draws on late modern discourses of knowledge and power to justify its advice for self-improvement and care, but what is turning out to be kind of great is the basic wisdom of its basic advice. Accept rather than resist, a la Buddha, Jesus, half of de Sade, et al., is an example of the wisdom (when it comes to most things, yet not everything). Kind of Fascinating so far

Picked this little book up with the volume on the sociopath next door. EI is most important to me

Was at B&N and fell for this little volume. I've recently suffered what a mental health provider called a sociopath. Of course, I know about the personality disorder, but this little "popular" book seems so enticing. Let's see!

I am, it seems, re-reading this volume, at least so my marginal comments in the volume indicate! Right now, I have no memory of reading this volume. I remember reading the rubaiyat in my undergraduate college library, but I do not remember reading this volume in my own library! Hah! I bet it comes back to me as I re-read it. Let's see

I have a pantoum in mind, or a bit that I think should well become a pantoum

Love it so far! The villanelle and the sestina sections are great (the Pound sestina I never have appreciated before now as presented), and now am exploring the pantoum! I think I love the pantoum!

All of the poems need the full poem for the effect of the lines and syllables, and the whole book, it seems, makes each poem, as the really sensational centerpiece, "(Poem as Aporia between Lighthouses)", shows in spendid fashion. But more when I read all of the volume through

Just arrived. Love the title / label for Rule 5! "Do not let your children do anything that makes you dislike them"! I know whiny types hate Peterson, but they can be irksome and stultifying, so try not to be around them

Nice appendix providing tips for healthy sleep, and great chapeter titles, such as " Your Mother and Shakespeare Knew: The Benefits of Sleep for the Brain" and "Conclusion: To Sleep or Not to Sleep" (ah, there's the rub)
