Don't get the audiobook version read by Ta Nehisi. When he's reading, it becomes really sad.

Roy is so good with descriptions! And she writes playfully. I love the relationship between kid Rahel and kid Estha. This might just be the best fiction book I'll read this year.

One good thing to come out of this is that I've realized that tropical and sub-tropical diseases, though violent and sometimes, deadly, can almost invariably be 'cured' if detected. Quite heartening to know, considering I live in a sub tropical country.

Reading about labyrinthitis was scary. Interesting but scary. And that we don't have a way to treat it is even more unsettling.

Enjoying this book far too much. It's personal and it's political.

Okay. Basically hate Ifemelu now, especially after what she did to Obinze. And I'm also apalled that my friend, who I'm reading this book with, doesn't think that it's particularly disturbing how she treats him and thinks that Obinze will eventually get closure when Ifemelu humiliates herself to be with him. But I disagree. How can someone think that self-humiliation can give someone closure? It doesn't even qualify

I'm worried I might become a hypochondriac after finishing this book. I'm already scared of chicken coops and mouldy damp places after reading about Histoplasmosis.

Ifemelu's behavior is selfish and her escapist tendencies are baffling considering the strong political opinions she holds. I just hope she doesn't end up a disaster towards the end.

Just read a gripping account of rabies!

I've just started it and already love the descriptions and the language. I was instantly transported to Kerala on reading the vivid descriptions!

It's turning out to be worthwhile.
