Imagine a more adult version of Roald Dahl writing the novel equivalent of Pink Floyd's "Time" and you have the current gist of this novel.

"You're sayin that now but you'll change your tune soon enough. They all talk brave. But then you get to talkin to yourself. That ain't so bad but dont start answerin yourself, son."

Orwell's bullshit eliminator is finely honed. He seems to understand political manoeuvring keenly, and then explain it. Matt Taibbi has a similar gift, although more financially-oriented. Thus far, a quietly enjoyable read from a (thus-far) principled, brave man.

Sowell makes a crushing indictment of the education of blacks in today's (American) environment. Given the referencing, it seems quite compelling.

One thing I can say for this book is that I am learning something. The section on middleman minorities was good - the section about slavery was excellent. It os only stunning to us now, in our comparatively enlightened state, that slavery went on as long as it did. It was normal and natural IN THOSE TIMES.

I haven't read as much as I would have liked, but exams finish tomorrow. Let's get cultured, boyo.

With a glass of wine and dim lighting, I thoroughly enjoy winding down for the night with this. Simple, elegant, a little repetitious, and meditative in its own way.

After chapters spent talking about silent evidence, he then forgets about it in an assessment of casinos and their spending on antitheft.

I like this guy's writing, but he does come across as a bit self-righteous.

Much more accessible than the other translation I was reading. Some of his thoughts are still relevant, and it is still an interesting feeling to read the innermost thoughts of a Roman Emperor.

The form is difficult and quite antiquated, but oh my, there is plenty to absorb and enjoy. My kindle highlight button is copping a beating.

Hunter was a brilliant writer. Throughout the parts I have read, he is positively clairvoyant. It is quite enjoyable to journey with him on his unusual tangents - it might be only circumstantially relates to the original topic but it is usually good fun anyway.

Pace has picked up. War is tragic.

I don't think the dialogue is the strongest part of this book.

A little difficult. The whole thing flirts between clever writing and wooden melancholy.
