This book is going to break my heart, I just know it. It has also reaffirmed my belief that some of the meanest people in existence are middle school girls, particularly towards other girls.

Listening to Maddie's mom tell her that she just needs to pray to get over her depression and grief for her father is so incredibly frustrating because it's also so fucking relatable coming from a family that believes God has a reason for everything. I think this kind of mentality from my family pushed me towards atheism.

Listening to Maddie describe how she can't feel happy, even though there's nothing particularly making her sad is such an accurate feeling of depression. Everyone tells you to be happy but they don't understand it doesn't work like that.

Ohhhh my god... Pip is learning who sponsored him and I feel so BAD for that person. I get that he's surprised because it's not who he thinks it is, but damn. This person has literally done everything for you.

I gotta say, we're already off to a better start than my last YA fantasy.

It's on the scratch off poster, so time to see if it lives up to how 2007 me felt about it.

Earlier this year, I bought a "Top 100 Books" scratch off poster for fun/some laughs. It's the only reason I'm going to read this book. And thank goodness I could get an audiobook version from the library. 1.5 speed to the rescue for this drawl.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I'll continue this book. I love dystopian "overthrow the evil rule" type YA novels but I always hate the romance thrown in. I'm getting Divergent romance vibes, and I really hate that.
