"Be quiet"
"Time to leave"
"Ok, but no final riddles, please".

This is what passes for dialogue in this mess of a novel.

A deity having a monologue about how its laugh could be even more menacing. This reads like it was taken from a teenage boy's "cool things for villains to talk about" notebook.

So far, terrible. Horrible dialogue, rambling sentences, characters with no personalities. People die with great pomp and I could not care less. It's difficult finding reasons to continue.

A fifth of the book done, I've learned again about the early days of the universe and now I'm reading about sampling in Mendelian trait inheritance. Not sure why. I'm still waiting for colour.

There's something about this man's delivery that makes even decent jokes fall flat. I wish that meant he instills confidence.

Apparently, the cackling villain is "secreting charisma instead of sweat". I'm glad I was told because nothing in the writing so far would have lead me to think he was anything but a paper cut-out with "villain" written over the front.
