This translation has a brilliant introduction and the translation is really stirring. At Waterloo Station and the dragon is about to attack. Have made lots of notes for upcoming Tolkien and the Epic Course through the Mythgard Institute

I am so into this immersive fantasy and Ghost the little dire wolf is so cute. Trying to keep Tolkien out of the room while I read. Reminds me a bit of Gormenghast but I am committed to reading this series to if George RR Martin is the American Tolkien (as a recent article in The Independent Said)

will be quoting from this excellent work of Tolkien scholarship in the paper I am writing for the Fantasy Before and After Tolkien course which has to do with Tolkien's use of portal fantasy in his legendarium. Hope I can build on the excellent work Professor Flieger did in this and other works.

Andrew Higgins is on page 550 of 640 of James Joyce: A Biography
Getting into Joyce's development of Finnigan's Wake which I plan to "assault" in 2012. Poor James he was plagued with bad eye sight and teeth during writing FW he could barely see through most of the composition of it.

One of my fav passages so far is from when was writing the Circe episode and because of the scandalious nature of the materials he went through 12 typists to get it in manuscript. One female typist's husband found what she was working on and banned her from typing anymore - my have times changed!!!

Andrew Higgins is reading A History of the English Language
Lecture 6 - excellent series of lectures on the structure and sounds of language. Drout expains very complex linguistic topics - like Grimm and Verners laws and i mutation/umlaut in a really easy to understand and clear way. He is making me want to diagram sentences and re-read Chomsky!!! Brilliant

Andrew Higgins is on page 75 of 183 of Tolkien and Wales: Language, Literature and Identity
This is a brilliant book. The chapter on inventing languages is one of the most complete analyses of the impact of Welsh on Golgogrin and Sindarin. The author makes a really intriguing link between the role shared role Germanic I-mutation and Celtic I-affection in forming plurals may be mirrored in in the development of Q(u)enya and Sindarin from Common Eldarin - good stuff!
