This is pretty good. A book of place. Police procedural. Heist procedural.

The family drama is over now. Back to political intrigue and machinations. A revival of romance with Paul's wife Prudence also.

What did McCarthy know about evil, fate and god? If he was a charlatan, he was a damn good entertaining one.

A bit like a horror novel towards the end.

How did Anton know Moss was in a hospital? Was it from Carson Wells phone? And Carla Jean's location from the phone bills?

Damn! This is some book man. Exhilarating thriller.

This is quite entertaining and funny even though it is so damn over the top.

References to Lord of the Rings which I have not read and hardly remember the movies. And to the Matrix which I have not rewatched. Protagonist has no interest in Nirvana or Kurt Cobain whom he liked in his youth. Does not like Radiohead anymore either.

Too much time spent with the main character Paul's father. Repetitive scenes with the sister and her husband. But the political mystery is intriguing.

Many moments that make you gulp as the main protagonist visits his father who is in a coma and him and his Catholic sister have sort of a friendly back and forth about life and belief in god. Also an intriguing political and technological thriller.

This is a dark and sleazy novel about athletes or forces of nature in the greatest country in the world.

Isn't Houellebecq like a marketing guy? He senses some of the great disillusionments of our time - lack of sex, internet addiction, male loneliness, gluttony, out of control technology and simply churns out novels with these themes. Of course he is talented and clever.

Very gimmicky and over the top. Entertaining too.

Only 33 pages today. The epistolary interventions are interesting and weird. Norman Mailer's Harlot's Ghost had long boring letters between the two main characters.

This is some book man. The kind of book I used to read in my twenties when I had a larger attention span. One of those giant American novels of place. Filled with criminals and alcoholics and weirdos.
