Burton did not do her research on her Latin quotations. "Lavetur in nobis sanguinis tyrannis" does not mean "To wash in the blood of tyrants," not even close. It actually means "Let it be washed in our tyrants of blood," which, while sounding cool, is literal nonsense.

I do not like this book. Burton's blithe treatment of the Reformation as an essentially individualistic movement is moronic. Her attempt to make Protestantism the spiritual mother and ideological seneschal of Postmodern neo-paganism is squishier than a bad skydive. Read Peter Leithart instead.
