This is shaping up to be the most fun I have had with a TNG book in a while.

This is one of the fastest reads I have had in a while. It captures the feeling of one of the FOTW episodes of the show well. We shall see if the pay-off is satisfying or not.

This book is mostly crap. The story is just plodding along at this point, I'm finishing it out of a sense of obligation. The characters are flat and boring and, to be honest, idiots. They make unnatural and questionable decisions at every turn. I hoped this would...flesh-out episode one, but the back-story is just is just as crap as the movie.

The writing of this book is painfully awkward and repetitive. When two female characters are introduce one is described as "neither pretty nor beautiful" while the other is first "stunning" and then suddenly "not beautiful, hardly even pretty." I don't know how this woman has published books.

At this point it is seeming like this book started out as fanfic and somehow got published. Clumsy writing, bizarre romantic interludes and cringe-worthy dialogue. I will, however, soldier on.
