I’m disturbed by readers who rate books they haven’t finished. Imagine me rating The Sixth Sense after watching only 80% of it, completely missing the reveal that defines the film and made it a classic. That wouldn’t be an opinion, it would be dishonest. And lazy. And unfair, not just to the creator, but to the act of reading itself. This actively undermines what it means to engage with a work in good faith.

I spoke too soon. This book is dumb. Not because of the dark themes. But because the writing is so bad. The author seriously needs to look up more descriptions because she repeats the same handful of phrases over and over again.

Yet… the book is decilously addictive. So I’ll finish it. It’s basically kinky porn, and I can’t look away.

I was reading some reviews and saw that many people found the book dark, disturbing, and even rapey and gave it a one-star because of this. I mean the author warned you in the TW— what did you expect?

Is this your first foray into dark fantasy? And definitely not the PC dark fantasy that’s been in the market for the past few years.

This book is definitely disturbing, but common to the genre. And I like it!

This book is completely dumb and predictable. I have no idea why I’m still reading it. It's a blatant Hunger Games/Red Queen rip-off.

This is what I get for reading YA fantasy. I thought maybe the genre had improved in recent years, but clearly not.

I hate that we can't look at others' reading challenges. What's the point then? I love when I'm able to see what others are reading. Goodreads is supposed to be a community forum where we can share and interact with others, and not being able to interact with others' reading challenges dilutes that.

If I wanted to keep my reading challenge a secret, I would have joined one of those apps like Fable or StoryGraph.

I’ve heard people say that Dora is autistic coded but I want to challenge that and say she has more of have Anti-Social Personality trait.

This book is too long. And not that good. I’m going to finish it because I already invested so much in it already.

This story boring as hell

How can anyone stand the writing style? Hate reading at this point.

All these random blinkings you might think they have conjunctivitis.

I know it’s written like that on purpose for them to behave like teenagers when they are in their late twenties. But gosh it’s annoying. I struggle with the way Jasmine speak. If it was only in dialogue it would be fine but the blunt nature in the regular writing is jarring, and pulls me out of the story.

My eyes twitch every time they say “picturegram” instead of “instagram “
