Eric is starting Ada, or Ardor: A Family Chronicle (Vintage International)
A reread actually. One of my least, if not my least, favorite Nabokov novels. Trying to see if time has has had any effect on that assessment.

Eric is starting Shards of a Shattered God (Shards Series Book 1)
I'm about halfway through. The best book about growing up in the US I've thus far had the pleasure to read.

Eric
Eric is starting The Recognitions
A reread actually. I've just started and I can't believe how funny the book is, which is to say I missed the humor the first time through.

Eric
Eric is starting The Book of Laughter and Forgetting
About two chapters in. Laugh out loud funny, and you know what they say. There's nothing more therapeutic than laughter. The past? Fuggetaboutit.

Eric is finished with The Goldfinch
It's a vast improvement from her debut novel. That said, long-winded is how I have to describe its preliminary pages which aren't so much about moving the plot, offering insight into character, or adumbrating the theme. Indeed, they're about showing off the writer's rhetorical ability which is considerable, but let's get real: showing off is showing off. I stuck with it though and was amply rewarded.

Jr. finally made his appearance about 60 pages in, and it was like an electric charge. The bits of description Gaddis throws in are the stuff of genius.

This is my first Chabon though it could've, should've been The Mysteries of Pittsburgh when it debuted all those years ago when I was in college. A delightful writer through and through.
