In the first chapter, Anthony Hoekema (AH) categorizes OT eschatological expectations in categories drawn from (and varyingly prominent within) the OT: Messiah/Redeemer, Suffering Servant, Kingdom of God, New Covenant, restoration of Israel, outpouring of the Spirit, the Day of YHWH, and new heavens & earth. These all look forward to fulfillment.

Two chapters down... I'm most impressed with CT's view of the desacralization of space in the Reformation, esp. the Calvinists. That's interestingly coupled the Calvinists' "reconstruction" of society. Both of these hinge on how we think of "space" and "time." True to form, modernity offers an anemic (but useful) conceptions of both.

Christianized Neo-Stoicism in the 16th century also drives much, according to CT.

First of all, CharlesTaylor is a stud. His erudition is undeniable and his style quite engaging. The subject matter is tough-going but digestible. I lament that the table of contents is so inadequate, especially for a work of such breadth and detail. The part and chapter titles are opaque and the whole table needs to be much more detailed. This is one very simple way to make a work like this more accessible.
