Let me start by stating that social dramas are not my thing. Second, the only things I can compare this book to are Griffith's Birth of a Nation and Updike's Rabbit Angstrom. The second of those is my most hated book, it was useless and there were no redeeming qualities in any of the characters in any of the books in the series. BUT it was extremely well written. This book hits all the same notes.
