Third timer here. Better every time. Working through them all in anticipation of #5 being released in December. 👏🏻

Finally, at around page 400, the plot lurches forward and a reader’s labor is rewarded.

Somewhere beneath the indulgent prose and elaborate world-building is an interesting plot with interesting characters.

It’s written as a kind of first-person memoir by the protagonist at some point in his future.

So far, the suspense of what awaits is good enough to keep me reading, even if I’m not engrossed by it.

The first 200 pages are a first book slog—trying to remember names, places, magic systems, etc. But after I settled in, the next 200 were 😆😬🧐😳. Looking forward to the home stretch!
