Honestly. I was enjoying this a lot more before all of the action started.

The only reason I haven't read this quicker is because im reading Connollys Charlie Parker series on my phone at work and I get engrossed in them. Every time I manage to pick this up though I don't want to put it down. It's so good.

This is the first book in the series so far that is a proper continuation of the one before it. You definitely need knowledge of the previous novels before reading this one. It's really cool how Connolly keeps this series so fresh.

The past never truly dies. It is there, waiting, just below the surface of the now. We stumble into it occasionally, all of us, through remembrance and recall. We summon to mind former lovers, lost children, departed parents, the wonder of a single day when we captured, however briefly, the ineffable, fleeting beauty of the world.

Amidst all of the action I've just read there was a part that's really creepy. Loving this.

“Rocky didn’t beat Apollo Creed, remember,” Patton said. “But he shocked him, and the world, because he refused to give up.”

Most violent criminals smash through life like human sledgehammers. They have fists for hands and can’t plan beyond their sightlines. They’re caught easily. They talk too much. They return to the scene of the crime, as conspicuous as tin cans on a bumper. But every so often a blue moon surfaces. A snow leopard slinks by.

If a new beginning is really new, it will feel like a crisis. Any real change should make you feel, at first, afraid. If you’re not afraid of it, then it’s not real change.

When Samuel was a child reading a Choose Your Own Adventure novel, he’d keep a bookmark at the spot of a very hard decision, so that if the story turned out poorly, he could go back and try again. More than anything he wants life to behave this way.

The conversation became a horrible test she could easily fail. She felt a sense of doom combined with those bodily fight-or-flight mechanisms—headaches, chills, blushing, sweating, hyperventilating, hairs standing on end—which made everything worse because the only thing more painful than a panic attack was someone else seeing it.

Preach.
