This is really dragging in the early middle. I understand that the researcher's backstory is important, but that's not the book I thought I was reading.

having a really hard time finding a book that just sucks me in and won't let go lately.

Haven't felt well the past few days and it's been super hard to read. Major bummer :(

The body horror in this book is -profound.-

“Can you watch the coffee shop a minute? I need to go found a religion.”

Holy mother fucking SHIT

Cursing myself for waiting so long to read this. It has everything. Taxidermy raccoons, donuts, a sad but relatable divorce, and a house - er, coffee shop/museum of the weird - that's bigger inside than it is outside.

This campaign to tell the truth about Forrest also revealed the truth about ourselves. Who we’ve been, who we are, who we might yet be. And maybe, at this late hour, even as so many Neo-Confederates were retreating from that knowledge, maybe more of us were arriving there to accept it.
