I started re-reading this on my Kindle during my trip home from Michigan to California. I love the Vorkosigan books, and it's been a long time since I've seen Miles at this brash, young stage of his career.

The book got off to sort of a slow start for me, possibly because it's written in a fairly dense literary style. At this point, though, Pip has sucked me in with her world-building, and with the character of Merrick Chambers. It's fun to see this new world from the perspective of a guy who is both young enough to be over his head and smart/talented enough to be a little cocky about his abilities.

The book started a little rough, with bad turns of phrase that should've been caught by the editor, but I love all of the plot twists. Han, Luke and Leia all feel true to their on-screen personalities. Mara Jade is a much younger version of herself than we've seen before, cocky & idealistic, but recognizably the same person. The stormtrooper characters are pretty flat & bland.

This is without doubt Gail's best book yet. :)

Poor . I really felt for him in this latest scene.

The plot thickens, and even wackier characters take the stage. Mr. Lange-Wilsdorf cracks me up. :)

Just devoured four chapters in one day. These characters are amazingly fun to hang around with. :)
