Any particular reason Lyra almost fell off a cliff other than so all her 'vanity' is shaken out of her and she's 'limp and fainting' in Will's arms? What happened to the tough kid from the first book?

Lyra is acting so quiet and timid now so Will can have all the best lines :/ it's disappointing.

Not sure about the ~sexy~ portrayal of Bev while she's being abused. Especially the descriptions of her body and the whole 'part of her Wants it'. Then again it's from the pov of the abuser, and he's clearly the bad guy. Hmm...

I wish they'd stop referring to the preacher's daughter as a 'child' it really threw me off when she suddenly became a target of seduction.

Still bewildered by the 'she smiled anyway' thing. Kaladin, considering Shallan barely getting by via total repression, I'm not sure this is something you should look up to. And this is coming from a repressed British person.
