Pleased to announce that after six years of searching, I've finally acquired a copy of MacDonald Harris's "Mortal Leap". I'm hoarding it forever.

"I think reading a good book makes one modest. When you see the marvelous insight into human nature which a truly good book shows, it is bound to make you feel small--like looking at the Dipper on a clear night, or seeing the winter sunrise when you go out to collect the morning eggs. And anything that makes you feel small is mighty good for you."

"She got some shitty poem by Rumi and read it to me. 'There is a candle in your heart...' I laughed, and she asked me why I was laughing. I said, you small-minded bitch, you think that is poetry? Of all Rumi's goddamned poems, you pick that one? Did you find it in some psych-nonsense anthology? That has to be his worst poem, and it isn't even translated well. How does it feel to wade around in life so hopelessly?"

I'm so sorry to all the dozens of users who have ever sat in my "friend requests" bin for months at a time before I ever even looked at them. I'm terrible.

What's your most under-appreciated review, the one that you particularly enjoy how it turned out that everyone else ignored? Let's share them.

On my second reading. Good poetry deserves to be read twice.

I'm in such a reading slump, I'm slogging through Moby Dick even though I feel like I would love it ordinarily, so I tried to read The Second Sex, (who knew that taking a break from a 550 page book by reading an 800 page book was a bad idea?) And I even had to put down my 200 page poetry collection. Arghh. I need fixing
