As is often the case with me and Pynchon…now is not the time for this one. Took almost a month to get to page 260. Will try again at another date!

Going to have to come back around to this later, as I need to return it to the library! And only got 1/4 through it. Really really loved the stories I read though. They’re so intense and some are extremely disturbing, and not even in a comedic or smart alec way like Moshfegh or Rick Moody. These are all real dead behind the eyes existential howls. Very unforgettable stuff!

The 200 pages I read are among the best and trippiest fiction I’ve ever read by at an astronomical margin, but I haven’t had the commitment needed to continue. This is a book you have to completely give yourself over to. Look forward to trying again at a later date!

This book is bananas and very weird! I was enjoying it but took too long of a break so gonna have to return to it and start over at some point.

Quit on this after 50 pages. Not really for me….kind of gross. Hasnt aged well. Is a pretty despairing portrait of the hippie ethos of the 70s that I kind of find a bummer. Kind of like a Texan version of Tropic of Cancer, or a more refined Bukowski. Casual racism, unassuming abuse towards women, etc. Kind of funny though imagining people picking this up on the basis of loving Lonesome Dove and getting horrified.

Gonna have to give up on this one for now. I was really digging it when I had loads of free time but I took a far too long hiatus from it so I’ll have to start over at some point. I’ll see you neurotic Russian weirdos later!

Halfway through it. I must say, this is kind of the perfect time to read this book.

the spine broke on my library copy of this and I dropped it and bunch of pages fell out of it so I'm wrapping a rubber band around it and taking it back to the library. Will continue it again at some point. Really bananas stuff.

Now what's a hard book to not read for a week and pick up again and try to to read and give up? Dune.
