Entertaining read. However, I need to brush up on my knowledge of Yugoslavia politics during WWII. How it appears the Italians were secretly backing Tito’s partisans rather than the Royalists that they were officially allied with.

For some reason, on this recording, Alan Alda is reading very lethargically. He almost sounds drunk or very tired at times. Perhaps he is very tired - it's not easy reading books. I usually don't listen to books on tape read by the authors, because usually they are not very good. But Alda being an actor, and the fact that he read "Things I Overheard While Talking to Myself", and it was good, I decided to listen.

"In spite of the conceptual simplicity of the physics of classical plasmas, more often than not their behavior in the laboratory defied the theorist's predictions. The reason for this is to be found not in the theorist's limited knowledge of mathematical methods, but in the difficulty in sorting out the really important aspects in an experimental situation and using the model best suited for the case."

The audio CD is a bit difficult to follow. I often want to re-read passages. So I'm going to have to finish this by reading it.

Lots of great stories. Most made me cry, to see how destitute and abandoned so many people are by the rest of society. And how mean-spirited government can be. But of course, it's not government, it's *us*, since we *are* "government".

Very well written. And very well narrated. And extremely sad. Don't read this book without being prepared to cry.

The protagonist, Ada Sibelius, is well-written, and I can identify with her. Excellent beginning.

So far good. Interesting depiction of 17th c Bavarian life, and the status of executioners in particular.
