I was really enjoying this book up until the story shifted and the awesome, lovable main character turned into someone else (hope that isn't too much of a spoiler). The love story is also really trite -- despite his Byronic brooding, the "hero" has no actual depth of character. Really disappointed, because Ms. Taylor is a spectacularly talented writer.

Wow. This book started out so strong, but for the last couple chapters, I've been incredibly bored. The main character is walking around seemingly without purpose (but with the classic D&D party), looking to join a war for political reasons I can't say I fully understand. This author is much better at the "close-up" stuff in life -- when she backs away to take a more "epic" long-term view, her storytelling suffers.

Wow, not loving this one so far. The world isn't very immersive, and the dialogue feels forced.
