Just bought the book and audiobook for this one. I have seen some polarizing reviews for this story. Some seem to absolutely hate the science-fiction portion, but give praise to the author's other works. I will have to check out her Station 11 and other writings after I make my way through this novel.

I just had to throw in another Claire Keegan this year. Fell in love with her stories and poignant writing style.

I am using August to read a series of books on cancer for a readathon hosted by American Cancer Society.

There were a couple books I saw from Kate Bowler, which included this one. I started tonight instead of waiting, because I have 6 books for it already.

So far, I have learned Kate was a professor at Duke, a Christian, and was diagnosed with cancer. The big questions come up and I believe is the book's point.

I was thinking about taking my time with this very short book of essays, but I was really entranced by the first work in the book. I know that it is geared towards women, but her words about poetry and its secret power to start a movement, to hide what cannot be said in the open, and how women can utilize this non luxury to their benefit against the powers of a white father country/world.

Book arrived today. Looking forward to start tomorrow after I finished 'The Dead' by James Joyce.

I feel like a major twist is coming. Just finished part 2. We had some awkward interactions and it feels like our protagonist, Gabriel, is overthinking his statements and place within the group setting he finds himself.

Still unsure the nature of the story outside of the interactions between the party goers.

So far, I feel like I am at a Great Gatsby party. The tone, the feel of the writing, the time period - all bring me back to that great novel.

This book was a recommendation based on a recent event of loss in my life. I was angry and explaining my position on someone saying, "It is all God's plan."

Inspired to read something about the struggle of light and dark within us after watching the new movie Thunderbolts. This seemed like a good fit. The story begins with the narrator talking about his family of light and his tiptoeing the line of the dark world.

I believe we all possess light and dark within us, and many factors help feed one or the other: family, friends, environment.
