Book was awesome, my favorite of the Holmes full length novels I've read (other two are Study in Scarlet and The Sign of Four.) No lengthy flashback. Very fun.

It's been awesome so far.

A good King book, borders on great but doesn't make it there. Scary in it's possible accuracy of what would happen if a small town suddenly was cut off from everything (I kept thinking, yep, that's what would happen if this happened in Waynesville) and a crazy Tea Party type took over the town. Good, but not great. Well plotted, but nothing memorable yet. It feels a little by the numbers so far, and I suspect it will continue this way, just as his next book sounds like a rehashing of ideas brought up in both the Dead Zone and the Dark Half.

Great read.

1st half was pretty solid, but it lost me towards the end. Ending felt a bit tacked on.

Fun read. The writing is, sadly, bad, reminding me of R A Salvatore book more than anything else, making it more of a guilty pleasure than something I can recommend to others. Little detail, and what there is isn't very good, and way too much repeating of lines. The editor should be replaced ASAP. I actually had to flip through several of the SoT books after to make sure the writing was good in them, (it was.)

Pat Rothfuss blurbs this book, saying, "Completely fucking awesome." Scalzi says, "imagine that D and D and an 80's arcade made hot, sweet love, and their child was raised in azeroth." I say it's like the Da Vinci Code, but instead of the puzzles being all about Leonardo, they're about 80's geekery. I flew through it, and while it's not a perfect book, I had an absolute blast. Fun, fun, fun.
