I thought it odd how no one ever spoke of them, how the word 'slavery' was not suitable in polite company, but instead was referred to as 'the peculiar institution'.

When it comes to religion, I tend to think it humbles us-teaches us our place in the world.
Really? I think it lets us off the hook, teaches us that nothing is really our fault, that something is pulling the strings, that ultimately we’re not to blame for the way things are. But the truth is we are very much responsible for the badness in the world. And we have the power to fix it.

Why does it seem that the more supernatural, unprovable, improbable, and ancient the source, the more people believe these texts (the Bible)?
Humans need reassurance. They need to know others survived the hard times. And unlike other species, which do a better job of learning from their mistakes, humans require constant threats and reminders to be nice.

People will always yearn for a simple solution to their complicated problems. It’s a lot easier to have faith in something you can’t see, can’t touch, can’t explain, and can’t change, rather than have faith in something you actually can - oneself.

Most women are less in love with their partners as they are desperate for their approval, starving for their devotion. They want, most often, to be touched as no one else could touch them, and most inaccurately assume this requires romance.”

Memory is a game that healthy-brained people play all the time, and the game of memory is won or lost on one criterion: do you leave the formation of memories to happenstance? Or do you decide to remember?
So, where were you when this began?
