"Mister Mayhew," said Mr. croup, helpfully, "do you know what your own liver tastes like?" Richard was silent. "Because Mister Vandemar has promised me that he's personally going to cut it out and stuff it into your mouth before he slits your sad little throat. so you'll find out, won't you?"

There goes any impression I had that there was a hint of YA about this book!

That Spook chapter was really good. It was very refreshing to see another city from the eyes of someone on the inside, especially a city that is being run by the skaa.

The End of Part Three. Really don't know what is going to happen now after the Assembly's decision on who should be King.

Can't understand how people find the second book weaker than the first one. I love the less-action, more-negotiation style of this book.

Really enjoying the political intrigue of the last few chapters. Things aren't looking great for Luthadel at the moment.

Bit of a slow start to this one, only really getting started though so not making any judgement yet.

Excited to see how Vin gets out of this predicament. The last few chapters have been great.

Incredibly tense ending to Part Two. Both Sol and The Consul's story arcs are after getting a little crazy. Add Brawne Lamia and Father Duré in to the mix and it adds up to what looks like being a great second half to the book.

"…all the shouts, screams, cries, and obscenities of battle which predate any media besides air and the human voice. It was a dramatization of total chaos, a functional definition of confusion, an unchoreographed dance of sad violence. It was war.”

The detective's story was definitely the most 'sci-fi' so far. Found it a little tough to keep up at times but it was still a great story. Excited for the sequel already.

The Priest's story was just as fascinating as the first two. Still no close to understanding The Shrike or the reason for this Pilgrimage though!
