The examples and history Carruthers is explaining makes me realize that my education on Black issues is startlingly incomplete. I feel like I was robbed of a more robust understanding of history through the exclusion of past events (the Haitian Revolution, Mrs. Recy Taylor, and Bayard Rustin, just to name a few examples).
