I looove Anne Tyler! Her writing is so homey, her characters so lived in, so beautiful in their ordinary-ness. It's all just so exactly right 🥲

This book is mad depressing.... very curious about the mind who wrote this- like, what have you been through that gave birth to this story?

I swear Anne Tyler writes books just for me. How did she know exactly what I was wanting to read?

As a younger sister of a sister and therefore girl's girl to my core, Lenu & Lila's friendship makes me so sad. Like why can't they fully support each other in the bad and the good? Why the constant competition and comparison? The world around them is so harsh, everyone so violent... I want better for them 💔 the storytelling is so beautiful, so captivating. Makes me want to learn Italian

The amount of references to U2 is actually astounding

I was thinking to abandon this one but got a second wind (mostly because I'm afraid of the Kite Runner 😬) it's sort of pretentious but I mean, it's Oxford so it's true to form lol

I have a little over 2hrs left in the audiobook and cannot muster up the strength to finish it. This book is so emotionally assaulting

I accidentally took a nap while reading this and had the weirdest, trippiest dream and it took me like 5 minutes to convince myself that I hadn't woken up in a different space time continuum. So yeah... this book is messing with me heavy 😬😅

I remember a few things here and there about this one but not the story entirely which is perfect because I feel like I'm reading it again for the first time. Only 2 chapters in and I feel like I've stumbled onto holy ground... like I picked this one up at the exact right time
